Watching them grow…

There are some beautiful things about being children’s photographer. One of the greatest is seeing my little subject growing up. This little man is the same age as my youngest, which makes it all the more fun! Here are some of the pages of his “first year” book and some of his most recent shoot. Love you, J !

Books, books, books!

I cannot tell you how much I love storybooks. Maybe the best part is taking the joyful images and creating a “story” with them. Or maybe it is adding the words and feelings that brings me the most joy. Or. . . perhaps it is the feel of the pages when they finally arrive from the binders. They really are exquisite. Here are a few page-spreads from a recent book. Twins . . . of course!

Winter at the beach…

I love the beach in winter. It is truly an overlooked location for fantastic photographs. I can’t tell you how many people have said, “We’d love the beach, but well, should we wait until summer?” My answer: “NO!” And here is why:

-It is not uncommon to have the beach to ourselves on a weeknight in February. Perfect!

-The sun goes down earlier, which means the photo shoot at the optimum light (1 hour or so before sunset) can take place before kids hit the “bewitching hour” of dinner-time.

-The lighting is often diffused by fog and wonderfully overcast skies; a photographer’s friend.

-You can wear fun, cozy clothes and still dip your toes.

-Because the beach is always wonderful :-)
Here is a sample of a session at the beach in late January. Does that look wonderful or what?

See the Whole Session

Teenager already…

This is a warning to all of you parents out there who think that your kids will be kids for much longer; they won’t! I can remember feeling so tired, worn out and almost looking ahead to the day my oldest would cut his own meat, tie his own shoes and do his homework without me reminding him every two minutes to get back at it. But that was just yesterday…and before I knew what hit me, my little boy can tie his own shoes, orders steak in a restaurant, likes a girl, rides the city bus to school and is going to be leaving my nest before I blink! I know I have a little more time with him, but things really have changed quickly. My advice, slow down, take a deep breath and ENJOY those little busy-bodies…because next week they will be just too grown up. -Anna

Isn’t the miracle of life…

…well, just such a miracle? I can hardly believe it, every time I see a new life forming and then a new life spring forth into the world. I have seen it a hundred times, now, and it still has the power to awe.

Busy, busy, busy…getting back in the swing.

Ah…a New Year! After a nice break, we at Images by Anna, are getting  back in the swing of things. Many things have changed around here. We are growing up! What started as a love of photographing kids, turned into a side business, then a second income business has now matured into become the main source of “food on the table” for our busy household of SEVEN. My husband, Brian, is now a full-time employee of Images by Anna, along with Rachel, my trusty assistant (she has been with us since July ‘07). Brian will be taking over some of the technical and behind the scenes work of our business as well as adding framing and installation to our offerings. We are really looking forward to the opportunity to serve our customers better than ever with these services.  Rachel continues to work with new and returning customers to get everyone situated on the calendar and to get information out to each family before their “big day”.

In addition to the new offerings, we will also be taking on more clients each year. More room for you on the calendar…at least for awhile. We have been booking out as much as 3 months, so we look forward to helping our customers find a space within a month or two (at least until things pick up at the new level :-)  This change brings with it another change: a new schedule. We will now be offering weekday photo sessions Wed-Fri at 8:00am, 11:00am and approx. 3:30pm (this will shift as the sunset times change). Saturday sessions will be available at 8:00,  11:00 and approx. 3:30pm; these will be open two Saturdays per month. Ordering sessions are similar: Wed-Friday at 8:00, 11:00, 1:30 and 4:00. Every other Saturday at 11:00 am and 3:00pm. Remember, these dates and times are for both sessions and ordering sessions, so we encourage you to contact us early to ensure that the date and time you need isn’t gone before you do!

Now…back to work!

Well, now…perhaps I should share some images?? :D
