I have joined a group of professional children’s photographers that I love to bring you a Blog Carnival. What is that? Well, we come together to come up with some themes (this month is “Reflections”) and then we each post our photo goodness and then link to each other. As a reader, you get to follow the links and see some great interpretations of the themes.  So . . . follow the links at the bottom of each photographer’s post and see the great stuff my collegues have come up with.

So I was originally thinking of your usual concept of  REFLECTION. You know, some pretty water or a window or mirror. But this image jumped to mind almost immediately. I captured this at a session at Klode park in Whitefish Bay, a suburb of Milwaukee. This was one of my first clients as a Milwaukee photographer, after moving here from San Jose, California, where I am still running a photography studio. They turned out to be great long-time clients and I just adore this family. I always love it when you can see the REFLECTION of a parent in the face of a child. Check out how much this boy’s smile reflects his daddy’s in this fun family portrait. It’s just wonderful, don’t you think?

We had our choice of 5 charities … so why did we choose LLS?  Two reasons:

First, 10 years ago, a long-time client and friend, Linsey Krolik, was diagnosed with and beat Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  Take a moment, and read her story at her Me Too You Blog.

Second, Every 4 minutes one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer…  Here’s more from the LLS website:

An estimated 137,260 people in the United States will be diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma in 2010. New cases of leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma will account for 9.0 percent of the 1,529,560 new cancer cases diagnosed in the United States this year*.

Overall incidence rates per 100,000 population for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are almost identical for data reported in 2009 and 2010 [(leukemia 12.3, 2010 vs.12.2, last year); (NHL, 19.6, 2010 vs. 19.5, last year); (Hodgkin lymphoma, 2.8, 2010, same as last year); (myeloma, 5.6, 2010, same as last year)].

Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma will cause the deaths of an estimated 54,020 people in the United States this year. These blood cancers will account for nearly 9.5 percent of the deaths from cancer in 2010 based on the 569,490 total cancer-related deaths.

Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. This statistic represents nearly 148 people each day, or more than six people every hour. Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20. In general, the likelihood of dying from most types of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma decreased from 1998 to 2007 (the most recent data available).

We are in the process of developing some new materials highlighting the different ways that our clients display their “Anna Mayer”s. Maybe you have a canvas or masonite gallery that Anna designed, maybe you came up with a cool arrangements of framed prints to show off your photos, or maybe you have something way cool and unique that we haven’t thought of. Don’t obsess about the quality of your snapshot, we just want to see what you’ve got! Next Friday, (5/28) we will evaluate all of the user submissions and choose a handful of standouts to be photographed by Anna to be featured in our new materials! Who knows, if your gallery is superfantabulous, you might even get a little bonus!
Here’s how it works:

1. Take a photo or 2 (or 3) of your display.
2. Go to the Images by Anna Facebook page
3. Upload your photo to our Wall by clicking the photo icon just below the box where you would post a comment to our wall.
