Oooh . . . I love this book. Love it!

Next to a gorgeous wall gallery that causes the viewer to gasp at the sight, my most favorite product we carry are the Storybooks. They are just beautiful, clean, sweet, fresh and the pages are simply divine. If you haven’t touched one, you need to stop by the studio in Los Gatos sometime and just thumb through a few of them. I promise, you’ll be hooked. This storybook might be my new favorite. I adored this session, first off, but the song she chose, Bob Dylan’s  ”Forever Young” has some of the sweetest lyrics I’ve ever read.  Check the song out here.  They make the perfect message from parent to child in this wonderful “Storybook”. Below are the page spreads. Take a peek. Don’t you agree?

A perfect little perch. My new office at home.

Portrait photographers have a favorite month (at least, most of the photographers I know, do) and that month is January. Fall brings as much work as a person can possibly handle and often, then some. We run around, ragged, helping to capture memories and create wonderful Christmas gifts for our clients. Then, when the last package is sent off with tender care, we turn to our own families and our own Christmases and Hanukkahs, again, running around, helping to create memories. Its a fruitful, but exhausting season, followed by the blessed January. Yay for January!

Since we moved our family into our first home life has been moving at the speed of a runaway train. We have had little time to get much done around our new home and our new offices. So I earmarked my beloved January as the time when I would tackle my loft office.

First step was for Brian to move out. He’s been sharing my office with me since we moved; an arrangement that really doesn’t work for either one of us. Not only is the space a bit crowded with the two of us and, often, at least a few children, but it is also a loud, chaotic space. As a loft above the family kitchen and looking over the living room, it can get pretty noisy up here. This arrangement works great for me, an ADD artist who thrives on chaos and noise (I must be doing at LEAST two things at a time, so filtering the chaos counts as one, work, as two. :-) ) For my more left-brained husband (and also the one who answers the phone) our chaos-loft didn’t work AT ALL. He could barely concentrate with all the action. In addition, we have been struggling to “share” childcare for our last young one, Miss Lydie-bug, who attends preschool for just 2 hours, twice a week. “Sharing” her doesn’t work very well when the parent who is “off-duty” is 2 feet away from the one who is “on-duty”, for obvious reasons. It was time to make a split. I’ll have to blog again soon, and show you Brian’s office. It isn’t as pretty as mine; think furnace room and concrete. :/

So with a couple of trips to my beloved Ikea, some sorting and ingenuity, my multi-purpose, happy, kid-friendly, and creativity inducing “chaos-loft” is complete. I LOVE it!!

Here’s the space in full use by the family. My “desk” is actually a conference table, which leaves room for Lydia to play with her toys or color and the older kids can do their homework after school. We’ve already enjoyed a game of Trivial Pursuit up here, and there is a lot of room and even more coziness, making it the perfect game-spot.

life. captured. Calling all cuties in Goggles!!

No, not the behemoth search engine; GOGGLES! Those adorable things that squish ears and make little eyes all wonky. I am working on a personal project; kids in goggles. I hope to create a book, a web-gallery, maybe an art gallery and perhaps even get it published!! Now I just need some little faces and fun goggles.

Read below to find out how you can have your child photographed by Anna for FREE!

goggle project

How will work:

-You find a cute kid (well, you should already own said child, for legal reasons)

-You find some fun or unique goggles (the kind for swimming, snorkeling or flying B-52 bombers)

-You snap a photo of your child in these goggles (this can be a camera phone, a crappy point and shoot, whatever!)

-You use the contact form to apply to be included in the project.

-You also email a jpg of your child’s goggle shot to images@annamayer.com

-We decide your kid and your goggles are what we need for the project (no one will be turned away for being funny-lookin’, only if we’ve already captured the same age/sex and/or goggles).

-We set aside a time and place to meet to shoot a few images (This will take about 15 minutes).

-You sign a model release, allowing Anna to use the image for the project, for sale, etc. (kinda’ the whole point)

-We send you a link to see a handful of my favorites.

-You tell us which one you love. (well, love the MOST. You WILL love them all)

-We send you a full resolution file of that image (with our logo in the bottom corner)*

-We post some very silly shots of kids in goggles for all to enjoy!

*you are welcome to purchase more prints/images if you choose.

My life. Are we leaving you? No!

So, rumor has it I am moving away . . . that is true, sort of. But Images by Anna is not moving away. In fact, we are going to be opening our new design space in Los Gatos next month. So, no worries, we are here to stay! Our family, though, after 8 wonderful years in sunny California, is headed back. Back to the “frozen north”.

If I had a dime for every time someone says to me, “You KNOW its cold there, right?”, I’d be a, well, you know . . .  So, in case you were wondering if I know- I most definitely do. I grew up in Minnesota, a beautiful land filled with rolling hills, fantastic fresh-water lakes, the rocky coasts of Lake Superior, hearty people and a fantastic accent (ever heard me speak? Ask me to tell you “about my boat”, sometime.). Oh, and snow. Lots of snow. Before moving to San Jose, my husband and I lived WAY UP NORTH, an hour NORTH of Duluth, MN. We were just 15 minutes from the coldest town in the lower 48!!! Somehow, with just one pair of mittens, (that’s another post) we survived. But there are other things, warm and cozy things, to consider, like . . . family.

My family is all back there, in the Midwest. They all live in Minnesota; every one of them! My sister and brother are both married with kids, my nieces and nephews, and my parents and grandparents are there, too. We miss them so much, all the time. Brian’s family all lives in Michigan; every one of them! We miss them too. It is hard, and expensive, to travel with a family of six, and we just can’t seem to get enough visits in to keep us happy. After eight years of being too far away, something stirred within us to look toward home. So, we opened the map . . .

There was certainly a lot more to it; kind of a long tale, actually. We didn’t just wave our fingers over the map and point. But we did have the whole United States of America, and somehow, we found our little red pin landing on Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I am guessing a good number of you haven’t even heard of it. Ha! Well, that’s okay. If you are a loyal blog reader, you will soon be an expert on the fine city of Milwaukee. One thing I can tell you right now, and I am so excited about, is that Milwaukee is less than 6 hours from my sister in Minnesota and just over that to my in-laws in Detroit! After 8 years of being separated by plane tickets and airports, that sounds pretty good to me. Not to mention being just over an hour north of Chicago, on Lake Michigan and in a wonderful, gritty mid-western city.

So, I bet you are wondering how this works. I am moving my family of six 2000 miles away. How exactly do I plan to keep up with your needs here in California? Well, we do have a plan to do just that. Once each month I will be flying out here for 5-7 days, to do my shooting (and ordering sessions). Then, the following month, you will have your appointment with me to view your images. All orders will be packaged and shipped right to your door. In almost all cases, you won’t even know the difference! Simple as that.

So Brian and I are busy figuring all of the details out. But we are enjoying the ride as we set off on a new adventure; one that will be bitter-sweet and exciting, frightening and exhilarating. That’s what adventure is all about. So, stay tuned for more details about our huge move. I will keep you posted! -Anna

Photo note: One of the things I love about a mid-western city is the urban landscape. A little bit old, a little new, a little bit gritty, but definitely filled with character. :-) How appropriate is the photo above for this post; the old and the new.

Some great new blogging goodies for everyone.

I am SOOO excited to announce our new blog categories and some of the fun things we are adding to this resource. I hope that you will all just love what we have planned. So sign up to receive updates and make sure you check back so you don’t miss a thing!  Check it out:
