How cool is it, that in these fun photos of adorable boys, you can see the photos from a previous session up on the wall behind them? I love it! Of course, I’ll have to go back again to capture the new display they now have from THIS session. Maybe next year I can take a photo of them in front of the photo of them with the photo of them in the background! Ha! Sounds kind of Alice-in-Wonderland, doesn’t it?

Newborns are so tiny, sweet, innocent and . . . exhausting! This little honey made us work for her images but they were worth the wait (just like the baby herself). I loved watching her sweet parents work together to change a diaper or sooth her or feed her. Awww . . . brings back memories.

Man, I could have a dozen of these!! Newborn photography in Milwaukee.

I had a lovely time yesterday, took the day off (just got home from California) and I headed straight over to my neighbor’s house to see her latest little one, the one I wrote about in this post. Before I knew it, I had been there for nearly three hours (this NEVER happens to me, the lady with a million things to do and always working). It was heavenly. Thanks for letting my crash your day, Jill. Today I headed back over to capture little Poppy more formally. She is sooo cute! You might remember the photo I posted from her mama’s maternity session. Little miss Poppy was perfectly lovely for her session. Isn’t she beautiful?

Last Wednesday was a big day for my friend and neighbor, Jill. It was the day that nine months of waiting was rewarded with the arrival of sweet little Poppy, her fourth beautiful baby. Like most births, it really began the day before. I saw Jill that morning, when we swapped preschoolers for a playdate. Leaning on her car she tells me “I think this might be it.” I smiled to myself; is there anything better than the day a new life comes into the world? I saw her a few more times that day, as she shifted uncomfortably and wondered if she was imagining the oncoming labor. As I was putting together our dinner, a family favorite “Squasheroni and Cheese” (an amazing and healthy version of baked Mac & Cheese you can find here), I thought perhaps Jill could use a ready-made dinner that night. I was going to walk it over, but I was kind of in a rush, so I put it in my Cruiser basket and peddled over. Jill and her husband were chatting with some other neighbors on their porch with the kids running all around. She laughed as I peddled up the walk and we both got a chuckle out of the “Leave it to Beaver”-ness of it all; the “casserole”, the Cruiser bicycle and the neighborly-ness. We laughed, but we loved it. I had to stop and take a photo of it, because, well, it was a lovely thing to remember. (Maybe someday I can show Poppy this post) Have I mentioned I love my new home and neighborhood?

A familiar view for me, as we shuffle down the road on some of our walks, on nights when she’s already PJ’d up and too tired to keep up. I actually don’t take her on runs in this; too annoying not to have my arms but she still likes going “super fast”. I love that I have this photo now, to help me remember this time in our lives and what we did so many evenings.

No, there wasn’t a wedding, and I’m not running from the FBI.

When we moved our family to Milwaukee a little over a year ago, we thought a lot about how we wanted to approach running a high-end custom photography business here as we have in the Bay Area. Should we extend our California-based business, Images by Anna? Should we start anew? After a brief attempt as a single business, we decided to go the “separate” route. We took many of the things we had learned over the years, came up with some awesome branding with the little red balloon, and launched Anna Grace. We had visions of an established local brand that would define a market. We thought we were on to something really fun and cool. And we still do.

However, there are many facets to running a small business and reality was that trying to mange two distinct identities, especially on the ubiquitous internet, proved to be a much more daunting task than we had anticipated. I ended up feeling like a schizophrenic, with so many identities and “voices” that I almost stopped communicating at all. After much consideration of our personal well-being and the best interests of our clients in both locations, we have decided to merge our two companies, Anna Grace (thelittleredballoon.com) and Images by Anna (annamayer.com), into Anna Mayer (annamayer.com). We are taking the best of our ideas for Milwaukee and bringing them to our clients in California (you are gonna’ love the new tweaks); we are bringing the best of our methods and systems from California to our clients in Milwaukee and Chicago (lucky ducks); and we are bringing together a vast group of fans from around the country (we love you, too).

Now, if we were a big company, we would get all of the various elements in place, stage a big event, and “flip the switch”. However, that’s not really our style (or our reality). We’re laid back people trying to be the best for our clients and our family. Instead, you’ll see changes happen in bits and pieces, but other than the obvious name and logo change, nothing will change as far as the great service and awesome products you know and love.

A few things to note: due to Facebooks’s limitations, our page there will remain facebook.com/imagesbyanna , which works, anyway, since the ARE “images” by “Anna”. You’ll see our new logo showing up (just look for the balloon ) around town & around the internet. You’ll see some changes on twitter (@imagesbyanna will be retired in favor of @annamayerphoto). What you won’t see? Two crazy chickens trying to juggle two companies, 5 email addresses, 3 twitters, and 5 facebooks; not to mention 4 kids, a house and a new puppy named Oscar. Yes that’s right; we have a dog named Oscar Mayer and no, he’s not a wiener dog. (No promises that we won’t still be two crazy headless chickens, though, cuz those kids, that house and that puppy are not getting a rebrand; at least not this time around.)

In June my family came with me to a destination photo-session in Saint Joseph, Michigan. What a beautiful place! Lake Michigan is really beautiful on the Wisconsin side, but get over to the Michigan side and it really shines. The beaches are amazing, as big and beautiful as a Bay Area California beach. The swimming is great, since the water is fresh and clean and, um, cold. We were walking on a city beach when I saw this big swing-set. I knew instantly I needed a photo of my four kiddos on it. This photo is going to be a wall mural in our new basement addition because it needs to be BIG BIG BIG! I promise to share a photo when we have it up and decorating our home.
