Day Four. Milwaukee children’s photographer Up North, in Minnesota.

Oh, how I love these! I’ve been meaning to post these of my dear friend’s children picking blueberries for quite some time. This friend and I met on my first day as a new teacher up in Eveleth, Minnesota, one of the coldest places in the United States. I moved there with young Tyler to take my first real job as a Special Education teacher and Girls Hockey Coach. She was newly engaged and I soon became engaged as well. We were instant friends. We married just two weeks apart and we have been friends through all of the ups and downs of married life and growing families.

This shoot was a quick, rather impromptu session at a not-so-ideal time of day for photos. Thankfully, with a little maneuvering, you really can make almost any crazy lighting work. Not only was the sun high in the sky, but this entire session took place in the most unlikely location: the ditch across the road from their house. I just love the summery feel, the sweet toe-heads, and the happiness the kids felt while they popped nature’s sweetness into their mouths. Mmmm . . . so yummy! blueberrisadorable  all-gone  delicious

Oh, so pretty! Minnesota family photographer.

This little family of honeys gave me a run for my money! But oh, are they cute. My tour this past July was really a great challenge to my shooting habits. California has a certain kind of light and its own unique backdrop. Being in new places forced me to think outside the box and find new ways to “capture the light”. I was worried about rain, which thankfully didn’t come, but the dark, overcast skies proved to be a beautiful compliment to our golden field, don’t you think?

I should have taken a photo of Lydia, who, because of some unexpected circumstances had to come with me and thus, spent this photo shoot watching “Cars” in the van with the windows down. She was right next to us as we shot these photos . . . but what I didn’t see were the 10,000 mosquitoes that joined her and ATE her alive! Poor thing was strapped in her car seat, with no means to get away from them. She was covered in bites . . . and I in guilt. Well, I am taking in my “Summer in the Mid-west lessons” and I won’t make that mistake again!

San Jose family photographer. Brothers in pajamas.

Yeah, they really ARE this cute! Just love these boys. I first photographed big brother when he was just a little guy himself. It has been a real pleasure to capture his family as they’ve grown. He now has a little sister and a baby brother to help keep his mom and dad busy; do they ever!  Little sister was not having it for the pajama fest…but the love of these brothers more than make up for it. I just adore these shots.

Glendale family photographer. Cool shot.

We had the most lovely time at the fourth of july fireworks display in Glendale, WI. It was actually the most impressive fireworks show I have ever watched. Even better than down-town San Jose, CA! This shot was kind of a lucky grab as I was photographing my son, Isaiah, swinging his glow rope around and the fireworks started behind him. One of those “couldn’t do it again if I tried” kind of shots.

Day Twelve. A really fun project: Testimonials!

I have wanted to finish this project for, oh, five years. I finally made the time to make it happen. I have some wonderful and happy clients and they were happy to share thier thoughts with me and with you. What a fun project for me! I can’t say I didn’t love to hear the “love” come back to me. Here is one sweet testimonial. Check out the rest of them here.

Recently I was asked “What really make you happy” and I honestly answered…. Anna Mayer! Whenever there is a bit of doubt in the world, maybe some uncertainty about this strange economy, what is constant and true are the amazing memories that you have captured throughout the years! When I reflect on those moments in time while thumbing through my beloved albums, happy thoughts come to mind. I thank you for that, from the very bottom of my heart.

A sneak peek of some busy little men . . .

These little guys had me RUNNING :-) But I am always in love with the images I get from the wild and crazy, busy ones. These are no exception!
