Walking Bug to the bus on day two
She stops to put on her shoes (she is always half-done)
and out of her backpack pops Norman.
“I wasn’t going to take him to school . . . I just wanted to show the kids on the bus.
I promised them if they sat up front I’d let them pet him.”
She waited “her whole life” for this moment.
Last night she brought home her eight week old puppy.
Named him Norman.
They snuggled.
They romped.
He slept at the foot of her bed.
Woke her at five a.m.
She taught him to play fetch.
He chased her everywhere she went.
Then, she got on the bus
and disappeared . . .
This has been one of my favorite experiences so far as a mom; watching my ten year old fall in love with her puppy. Her joy was so complete. We normally rescue pets from the humane society, but just this once, this once in a lifetime moment, we decided to get a brand-new-never-been-anyone-else’s puppy. What a joy it was to watch them find each other. Sigh.
